“Leap Day” (29th February) saw woodwind and brass players from Y7 – 11 at The Chase taking part in a workshop and concert with the Atéa Quintet, a professional wind quintet who are the Ensemble In Residence at Birmingham Conservatoire.
16 Chase players of a range of wind instruments spent the morning session learning three pieces, aided by Anna, Philip and Letty from the Quintet, then joined up at lunchtime with a small number of Malvern St James instrumentalists at Christ Church, Avenue Road, for a full rehearsal. A public concert then followed, which began with an interesting and varied selection of pieces from the Atéa Quintet, then culminated with all the students plus the Quintet performing the Overture from Oliver!, “Walk On By”, and “Food, Glorious Food”. The sizeable audience enjoyed the performance very much and the Quintet praised the students for their hard work, attitude and achievement throughout the day.
We would like to thank Severn Arts for organising this in conjunction with Malvern Concert Club – it was a fantastic opportunity for the young people. Many of these attend The Chase Orchestra and other musical groups in the area: if your child is interested in joining these, please get in touch with the Music Department!
